Catamaran of choice

As you know, this blog will eventually turn into our stories of sailing from the Med to Australia, finding the ultimate spearfishing and surfing adventure spots. Bring on 2015 (if we could go now, we would).

We spend a lot of time looking at suitable catamarans for the trip. Yes, it’s a bit early but we just can’t help ourselves.

So far, this is the winner: Catana.

It seems to be the best blue water catamaran around. It performs well, allowing for faster ocean passages. It looks good too. Isn’t it sexy?

The picture above is the 42ft that we saw at the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show this year. It made us want it more!

The interior design is great as well.

Of course we would go for what we can afford, but would prefer the owners version between 42 and 50ft.

The newer the better, but it will definitely be second hand. We’ll see why we can afford at the time :-/

We are yet to find bad reviews about Catana catamarans.

I don’t think I need to go into giving my own paraphrased review from other sites or magazines, but if you are interested, you can check out the company’s site here

We can give you our own personal and ongoing review once we are on our journey.

And yes, I have already started making a list of things we will need on that trip…

Oh and anyone who wants to convince us another boat is better, feel free to let us know what it is and why. We are always after feedback from people who know better and have experienced similar adventures.

  1. Hey guys! thanks for checkin out our blog, just a thought on your cat of choice so far… the catana’s have 2 steering stations near each stern, both out in the open, ok for a short period, but you wouldn’t want to be standing there all day in the sun, or all night in a storm! something to think about!

    • Hi! Thanks for that advice. That is something that has concerned us a bit about the Catanas. We are trying to work out if there is a possibility of building a bit of shade over the steering stations. I guess we have plenty of time to figure it out 🙂
